Our FindingsWe found out that the strip planting and water impounding methods each were efficient but when used together were even more efficient in reducing the scale of desertification. As in our discussion we stated that the more the number of plants and stalks survived, the more effective the method is.As the results show that there are more plants and stalks surviving in the container which used both of the methods mentioned above, we concluded that we could use strip planting and water impounding methods to reduce over crowding in the desserts.
After our findings, we noticed that strip-planting with water impounding is the best way to optimise resources and be more effective. If we use this method to the areas that are affected by desertification, we can lower the rise of sea-level and islands which have sunk can be recovered again as the excess rainfall that goes into the seas can be better used to combat desertification. Also, by planting trees in strips, we can grow trees more effectively to combat global-warming. These method can be helpful against the 21st century problems such as water level-rising, desertification and global-warming
Further studies can be done about the water used to that can cure or prevent desertification. The type of
plants also can affect the grip of the soil, the strength of the roots which is more durable in case there
deforestation occurs again . The plants with stronger roots will be preferable as they tightly packed soil can help hold water. Trees with a thick canopy would be good too as the canopy provides shade to prevent the water in the soil from easily escaping. We can also study the world map about the areas affected and the areas which is going to affected and help to prevent it. This can be done by looking at the wind current trends. The areas where there is less wind means less rain. These areas would be ones which are easily affected by desertification.
